In a New Year interview, we asked Robert Attard, managing director of Thermotec, several questions about Thermotec’s 2025 performance and its plans for 2026
Q: What were Thermotec’s 2025 highlights?
RA: High level of customer satisfaction, sales growth and new product developments were all highlights, but the major achievement was that we completed 6 major capital expenditure projects during 2025 which were done in parallel with our ongoing R&D program. This enabled us to improve efficiency in both our foam extrusion and acoustic barrier and composites manufacturing operations, which in turn enabled us to avoid increasing prices to customers while at the same time delivering improved quality products, our overall prices have stayed the same and in some instances reduced over many years due to these ongoing investments which sets us apart from our competition. Q: Acquisitions?
RA: We are very keen on the right acquisition and are constantly on the lookout for a business that will fit into the Thermotec operation and benefit our customers. Our two previous acquisitions met these criteria and folded seamlessly into the overall business. Ideally, we would like to replicate that while at the same time adding new products and technology to our range. Q: What new opportunities is Thermotec interested in pursuing next? RA: Continued investment in R&D and Plant & Equipment aimed at improving product quality as well as introducing new products will be core features of what we do in 2026. I think we are going to pleasantly surprise some of our customers with new offers in the second half of 2026. We’ve been in business since 1987, so we understand the importance of continually investing for the long term and ensuring we expand our product range to provide solutions for our customers. In 2025 we exported product to the UK, South Korea, New Zealand, China, Fiji and other South Pacific countries. In 2026 we plan to build on the export sales work we have already done to increase our export footprint. In addition to pursuing complementary acquisitions, Thermotec is focused on servicing and growing with its existing customers while expanding into new markets and attracting new customers. With a long history in acoustic and insulation solutions, and decades of supplying some of Australia’s largest organisations, we see significant opportunities to partner with major home builders, manufacturers, and other leading organisations. Through these partnerships, Thermotec can deliver bespoke, fit-for-purpose thermal and acoustic solutions that are unique and first-to-market, providing customers with a competitive edge in their chosen markets. Q: How important is Australian Made to Thermotec? RA: As an Australian owned and managed business, we are committed to expanding our local manufacturing footprint. Currently over 80% of our sales are manufactured in our Revesby, NSW factory supply customers across Australia and internationally. Our aim is to at least maintain this ratio going forward. Our ongoing investment in Plant & Equipment and R&D reinforces this commitment to Australian Made. As a local manufacturer we have the advantage of being able to respond more quickly to customers’ requirements, which are often very important to our customers.
